Drama by Paiten Van Meter

Drama is a very interesting topic to me because I enjoy reading different plays. When I read drama I have to visualize every move and emotion by the characters in my head because plays do not go into that much detail about their physical actions and you are expected to read the notes provided between the lines to have a better understanding of what is going on. Sometimes I get confused with what is going on because of all the skipping around to different characters, but it usually comes together after a while. Attending a play is a different experience than reading one because you get to watch all the actions take place and don’t get confused about the characters. While I enjoy reading plays, I find that attending them is much more fun and interesting.  Plays are also very long and take a while to read, so I think taking a class trip to attend a performance of a play we are discussing would be a great idea.

  1. I agree with you, plays are much more interesting to see than to read. I started to read Hamlet and it was kind of difficult for me at the start, however, as you keep reading it all starts making more sense to you. I do like the fact that Mrs. Ebersbaker shows us the films that just paints the whole picture and puts the final touch on my thoughts. Field trip would be nice :)

  3. I agree in a sense that the plays interesting to read, but in most cases i enjoy the actual book more than the movie. I feel like the movie just sets a way for your mind to think how it SHOULD be, I like to paint my own picture and usually watch the movie after reading the books =).

  4. I prefer to read the book first before I see the movie/play. I want to have my own sense of how the book is interpreted! It is more fun that way in my opinion.

  5. I enjoy reading the text before I see the play/movie. I want to have my own interpretation of the text before anything. It makes it more meaningful!

  6. One thing I love about theatre is that you can see a play one hundred times, and it will have never been the same.

  7. Our generation is far more interested in a visual setting. When we see a movie or perfomance a lot of details or scences are left out. The play is meant to be in its'in original work that's just my opinion.

  8. The film definitely clears questions you had about the text. We can't expect to know exactly what is going on just by reading because we tend to know better with an image in our mind. Although I believe plays are more detailed than the actual films, I would prefer watching the film than reading than text any day!

  9. Watching the films definitely helps but I think the text provides more details and a deeper understanding of plays.

  10. Yes I agree the film gives a viewer much broader perspective of what is going on.
